Dr. Bassam Abu Abdullah is a Syrian writer, academic, and political analyst specializing in international relations and public diplomacy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1993), and speaks Arabic, English, Russian, and Turkish.
Diplomatic & academic career
He began his diplomatic career as a member of the Syrian Foreign Service, serving as a diplomat at the Syrian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, from 2004 to 2008. He went on to serve as Director of the Damascus Center for Strategic Studies and as Director of the Baath Party Central School, alongside a long-standing role as a professor of international relations at the University of Damascus.

Dr. Abu Abdullah is a regular commentator on regional and international politics across Arabic media outlets, and has contributed articles to Syrian, Turkish, and Russian publications. He co-authored a book on China’s role in the emerging global order (“China: The Founding Act of a New World Order”, Orient Printing & Publishing, Damascus, 2019) and has participated in major international forums, including the Beijing Belt and Road summit in 2017. He also serves as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies, Shanghai University of International Studies.
